Illustrator:Educator of the Year, 2009 Awarded by leading USA illustration Journal 3 x 3
“The artists Gilbert & George met there, Lucien Freud studied there, the Pentagram partners Alan Fletcher, Colin Forbes and Theo Crosby went there, so did Gerald Scarfe and Sir Terrence Conran is also an alumini. The MA Communication Design course at Central St Martins School of Art & Design is the largest post – graduate design course in Britain and Andrew Foster is its illustration Subject Leader. Andrew stresses visual exploration of ideas and their relationship to visual language not only in his syllabus but also in his life as an artist and illustrator. Whether it’s a series of window posters for Kiehl’s or a 25ft mural for a solo show in a gallery, Andrew applies the same dynamics. He constantly blurs the line between fine art and illustration. In addition to commercial work for Kiehl’s, London fashion week, New Scientist, Esquire, Guardian, The Independent, Saatchi & Saatchi, BBDH and the BBC, he is active in solo and group shows. And he still finds time to guest lecture at university campuses, at ICON 5 and for the AOI. We are pleased to honour Andrew Foster as our 3 x 3 Illustrator:Educator of the Year, 2009″
